This page explains what information fleethopper.co.uk collects when you visit, why, and what choices you have. I’ve kept it in plain English.
1. Who runs this site
fleethopper.co.uk is a personal London commuting site run by Adam, based in the UK. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, email adam@fleethopper.co.uk.
2. What information is collected
- Visit statistics: if you allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics records things like which pages you visit, how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use, and roughly where in the world you are. This helps me see which guides are useful. It doesn’t tell me who you are.
- Comments: if you leave a comment, the name, email address and website you enter are stored with it, along with your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. Your email address is never shown publicly.
- Profile pictures (Gravatar): when you comment, a scrambled version of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy.
- Server logs: my web host keeps standard logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) for security and to keep the site running.
3. Affiliate and referral links
Some links on this site are affiliate links, through Amazon Associates and other affiliate networks, and some are my personal referral links for hire apps such as Forest and Voi. If you click one and buy or sign up, I may earn a small commission or ride credit at no extra cost to you.
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer or affiliate network sets its own cookie in your browser so it can see the sale came from this site. That happens on their website, under their privacy policy, not mine. I don’t receive your name, address or what you bought, only a report of the commission earned.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
4. Cookies
Cookies are small files saved by your browser. This site uses:
- Essential cookies: needed for the site to work, such as remembering your cookie choice. These don’t need your consent.
- Analytics cookies: set by Google Analytics, only if you accept them in the cookie banner.
- Affiliate cookies: set by retailers and affiliate networks when you click an affiliate link (see section 3).
When you first visit, a banner asks whether you’re happy with analytics cookies. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link at the bottom of every page, or by clearing cookies in your browser.
5. Other services the site uses
- Google Analytics and Google Site Kit: visit statistics, as above. Google’s privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Google Fonts: the site’s fonts load from Google’s servers, which means your browser shares your IP address with Google.
- Hosting: the site is hosted by Hostinger, which also delivers pages through its content delivery network.
6. Why your information is used
- Analytics: only with your consent, given through the cookie banner.
- Comments and spam protection: to show your comment and keep the site free of spam.
- Server logs: to keep the site secure and working.
I never sell your personal information.
7. How long it’s kept
- Comments: kept with the comment until it’s deleted. Ask and I’ll remove yours.
- Analytics: kept by Google for the retention period set in Google Analytics.
- Server logs: kept by the host for a short period.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal information held about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how it’s used, or withdraw your consent at any time. Email adam@fleethopper.co.uk and I’ll reply within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how your information has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
9. Changes to this policy
If anything changes, such as joining a new affiliate network or adding a new tool, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
